             abstract = "The main objective of this work is to estimate the greenhouse 
                         gases emission from biomass burning in Passo do Lontra - Mato 
                         Grosso do Sul (MS) area, through a methodology proposed by the 
                         Intergovernamental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In this 
                         context, the albedo and the apparent temperature alterations were 
                         analyzed. Then in order to evaluate this method the surfaces 
                         reflectance of Thematic Mapper (TM) of Landsat 5 satellite 
                         transformed to albedo values were compared with the ground 
                         measurements. It was observed a significant difference in the 
                         albedo values in burned areas that varied from 9 to 13%, as well 
                         as in the thermal amplitude that reached 20ºC. The greenhouse 
                         gases emissions due to biomass burning were estimated as 14.90 Gg 
                         of CO, 0.57 Gg of CH4 and 0.19 Gg of N2O.",
